Jake Farmer, founder of Maui Shallow Water Dive Academy, brings over 30 years of diving expertise to Kīhei, Maui. Specializing in shallow water diving, instruction, and guided tours, I hold professional certifications and a passion for safe, family-friendly experiences. Beginner Keiki Dive Program

Maui Shallow Water Dive Academy’s Beginner Keiki Dive Program introduces children (ages 8+) to shallow water diving in Kīhei, Maui. Led by certified instructor Jake Farmer, this poolside course covers:

•  Equipment Basics: Safe use of tankless dive systems (e.g., BLU3).

•  Water Safety: Breath control, buddy systems, and emergency protocols.

•  Underwater Skills: Basic finning, mask

clearing, and marine awareness.

 

Emphasizing fun and ocean stewardship, weekly classes prepare kids for safe, guided dives. Perfect for families and resort guests, fostering confidence and aloha.

Intermediate Open Water Shallow Dive Program

Maui Shallow Water Dive Academy’s Intermediate Open Water Shallow Dive Program in Kīhei, Maui, advances skills for adults and children (ages 10+). Led by certified instructor Jake Farmer, this course builds on beginner training, covering:

•  Advanced Equipment: Safe handling of tankless dive systems (e.g., BLU3).Airbuddy And other tankless dive systems on the market

•  Open Water Safety: Navigation, buoyancy control, and emergency procedures.

•  Marine Skills: Fish identification and coral-safe diving.

Advanced Guided Tour Program

Maui Shallow Water Dive Academy’s Advanced Guided Tour Program in Kīhei, Maui, offers immersive shallow water experiences for adults and children (ages 12+). Led by certified instructor Jake Farmer, these tours explore Maui’s vibrant reefs, emphasizing:

What equipment do I need for the courses?
All necessary diving equipment will be provided during the courses.

Are there age restrictions for the diving courses?
Our courses are open to participants of all ages, with tailored instruction for each age group.

Can I bring my own gear to the classes?
You are welcome to bring your own gear, but we ensure all equipment provided meets safety standards.

Do I need dive training?

Yes, for your own safety! Learn about the implications of breathing compressed air, important safety rules and emergency procedures, as well as practical skills, such as how to breathe correctly, clear your mask from water, equalise your ears, weigh yourself, communicate underwater with hand signals, etc.

Having the dive licence (“plastic card”) on its own is no guarantee for your safety or comfort. You really need to understand the theory and follow the rules. Please use all means available to you, including professional training, books, advice from experienced divers and online resources to learn, improve, and periodically refresh your knowledge.

Remember, there is no harm practicing your first dives with AirBuddy in standing depth water and progress deeper as you gain more confidence. Please dive responsibly, know your limits, and never dive to a depth you don’t feel comfortable to ascend from in case of an emergency.
